Digital Projection launch separates light source from projection ‘head’
At InfoComm 2019, Digital Projection will present its Satellite Modular Laser System (MLS) that separates a light source, and associated power and thermal management, from its projection ‘head’.
The development means that the lightweight head, containing minimal optical and video processing, is lightweight and easy to transport and install in areas where space and access are limited. It can also limit noise in environments that require this.
On stand 1642 at the Orlando show, Digital Projection will demonstrate how the Satellite MLS offers a small number of simple building blocks that can be used in single projector installs as well as complex, multi-channel domes, caves and simulators.
The head and the light source can be linked by robust and flexible fibre-optic cables up to 100m long.
Satellite MLS will be developed around WUXGA, Native 4K and 8K resolutions and will also incorporate Digital Projection’s ‘MultiView’ technology.
A modular design means there can be a one-to-many, or many-to-one relationship between the light sources and the projection heads.
In a one-to-many relationship, a single 10,000 lumen light source can feed multiple projection heads, equally splitting - and precisely controlling - the luminance of each image through the life of the system. Control mechanisms are designed to ensure unparalleled matching of any number of channels and reduce system downtime for scheduled maintenance.
In a many-to-one relationship, multiple 10,000 lumen Satellite MLS light modules can be combined to feed a single, compact projection head. Digital Projection says this results in a lumens-per-kilogram ratio that surpasses anything that precedes it.
Satellite MLS is also designed to reduce servicing requirements. Each projection head is designed with a closed-loop cooling system to seal off critical optical components from ingress of contaminants. With reduced thermal dissipation and small size, Digital Projection argues that supplementary environmental enclosures are easier to design and manufacture.
