Better Sound: Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre, Singapore

After experiencing problems with its existing audio visual system, Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre reached out to Sovis to overhaul the setup.

The Kreta Ayer Foundation manages and operates the Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre. The venue can seat approximately 1,100 people and is primarily used for live events such as Chinese opera and live musical performances.

In order to upgrade its audio visual systems, the Kreta Ayer people’s Theatre engaged the services of integrator Sovis. The project commenced in March 2015 and was completed in June 2015 in time for a scheduled performance.

Goh Thian Min, project manager at Sovis, talks about the reason behind the upgrade: “Previously, the theatre had point source speakers for audio. However, the audio coverage was not good enough. A lot of the patrons who came in for opera performances also complained about the intelligibility and could not hear the sound clearly. The audio problems led the theatre to set up portable speakers on the stage but these could only reach the first few rows. There were also a number of complaints about feedback when using the microphones.”
