Case Study: UTS Superlab, Australia

Hurrairah bin Sohail discusses the thought that went into establishing the UTS Superlab and how input from core users drove the project and helped the University achieve its goals.

The University of Technology Sydney [UTS] is a public university that provides students with technical education. Located close to the centre of the city, UTS expanded its campus with the addition of a new building which included the establishment of a Superlab. The project began in 2013 and was completed in 2015.

Rob Hardy, senior project manager from the Audio Visual Services team at UTS, who was brought on specifically in to head the project at the start, describes: “The overall scope of the project encompassed the entire building which spans over 40 spaces. The Superlab, as it was developed, got larger and larger and ended up accounting for approximately half the AV budget for the entire building. But we knew from the start that it was going to be expensive. I was taken on by the university in 2013 and that gave me the opportunity to develop and design the systems that were deployed.”
