Intercoms: Complex flexibility

Hurrairah bin Sohail explores the features Asian customers are demanding when it comes to intercoms and how the right product can benefit venues.

Intercoms operate away from the limelight but are a crucial part of many AV systems.

Cameron O’Neill, director for APAC at Riedel Communications, says: “The biggest demand [for intercoms] is coming from the event sector. Traditionally these events were served with simple 2-wire beltpacks, but as events have become bigger and safety has become more of a concern, there is an increased demand for high-quality matrices. In the broadcast area we are also seeing a lot of projects as customers build new studios and OB trucks to upgrade to HD or 4K (depending on the country), and use this as a chance to upgrade their system.”

Edward Lim, regional marketing manager for Asia Pacifi c at Bosch, comments: “The demand for the intercom is growing in APAC, especially for the broadcast sector. The drive of this growth is the migration from digital audio from AES to IP based audio solutions. Our biggest IP intercom installation in Asia for broadcast market is in Japan, where we have over 28 remote TV stations intelligent trunked via IP with geographically redundancy.”
