Over the past decade, Shure has redefined how audio is captured in collaboration spaces. Continuing on the path, the Microflex Advance portfolio is set to evolve and usher in the manufacturer’s most ‘intelligent’ chapter yet.

It all started in 2016, after the original MXA910 introduced steerable coverage technology to the conferencing world. Jump to present times and Shure has launched the MXA925 ceiling array microphone — the latest flagship of the portfolio. The new product is a clear indicator that Shure does not intend to rest on its laurels, and its audio solutions aim to maintain their leading role in collaboration spaces.

From microphone to intelligent ecosystem

To understand what the MXA925 represents, it is helpful to first trace how Shure’s portfolio has evolved. When the MXA910 launched in 2016, the crucial innovation was Steerable Coverage technology — the ability to define virtual coverage zones in software rather than relying on fixed microphone placement. It was a departure from how ceiling microphones had always worked, and it changed the category. What followed was a decade of deliberate expansion. The MXA710 linear array brought new form factor flexibility. The MXA920 introduced Automatic Coverage technology, dramatically reducing setup time. The MXA902 integrated a loudspeaker and IntelliMix DSP into a single ceiling-mounted unit. The MXA901 delivered a low-profile conferencing solution suited for smaller rooms at scale. And this year, the MXA320 reimagined the table array with onboard IntelliMix processing.

The result is not a collection of standalone microphones but a coherent, scalable ecosystem — one that spans ceiling, tabletop, linear, and integrated configurations, and that shares a common approach to softwaredefined audio, networked infrastructure, and enterprise management.

Evan Groom, global product manager at Shure, frames it plainly: “MXA925 builds on what customers already trust about Microflex Advance, while introducing new AI-enabled processing capabilities that help even the most acoustically difficult meeting rooms perform better.”

The MXA ecosystem is evolving to become the intelligent physical layer for AI-powered collaboration while still being focused on providing the highest-quality audio foundation. This evolution seeks to enable analytics, meeting intelligence, and emerging AI-driven workplace applications.

AI processing that works from day one

The central feature of the MXA925 is its AI-enabled IntelliMix DSP. This is not AI as a marketing qualifier. It is a processing platform that has been trained on real-world acoustic conditions and applies that learning to the specific challenges that integrators and end users actually encounter.

AI Acoustic Echo Cancellation addresses the persistent problem of loudspeakers positioned too close to the microphone. AI Deverb tackles reverberation caused by hard surfaces — windows, whiteboards, glass partition walls — that have long made certain rooms frustrating to tune. AI Denoiser filters out the background noise that accumulates in active offices: keyboards, pen clicks, air handling units, passing conversations. These are not edge cases. They are the everyday conditions in which most meeting rooms operate, and they are precisely where conventional DSP has historically required the most manual intervention.

Crucially, all of this works out of the box. There is no extended tuning process required to achieve baseline performance. For integrators managing deployments at scale — rolling out standardised rooms across a distributed estate — that consistency has direct operational value. Fewer site revisits, fewer support escalations, more predictable outcomes across spaces that may vary considerably in their acoustic properties.

And because the AI algorithms are delivered and updated via firmware, the MXA925 does not simply perform well at installation — it improves over time. Customers’ investment is protected as Shure refines and enhances the processing platform.

Built for the enterprise, designed for the room

Performance alone does not determine whether a microphone earns a place in a modern enterprise deployment. Security, manageability, and integration all carry weight — particularly as AV infrastructure becomes increasingly intertwined with IT.

The MXA925 addresses this directly. Dual RJ45 network connectivity supports flexible and redundant deployments, meeting the requirements of organisations with rigorous network architecture standards. Enterprise-grade security features — 802.1X authentication, audio encryption, and secure boot — ensure that audio infrastructure meets the same standards applied to other networked systems.

Remote monitoring, real-time management, and firmware updates are handled through ShureCloud, reducing the need for on-site intervention and enabling IT and AV teams to maintain oversight of deployments from a single platform.

The MXA925 is certified for Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms, ensuring that the microphone integrates cleanly into the platforms that most enterprise meeting rooms now depend on. It also supports camera tracking and voice lift, extending its utility beyond conferencing into the broader range of applications that modern rooms are expected to serve.
