ConnecTechAsia 2018: Three key takeaways from the show Features 10/07/2018 ConnecTechAsia 2018 was held in Singapore from July 26 to 28, 2018. InAVate APAC reports on the three major takeaways from the show for AV professionals.Managing the split ConnecTechAsia 2018 was held across two venues, with BroadcastAsia being held at the Suntec Convention Centre while NXTAsia and CommunicAsia were staged at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre. Exhibitor response to this decision was mixed. The split meant that casual walk-ins at booths were infrequent resulting in low overall attendance and foot traffic. On the flipside, it meant that visitors at booths were exactly the people exhibitors were looking to target. IP vs SDI: Battle continues Speaking with manufacturers, it was clear that they viewed IP as the future of the broadcast industry. However, operators are not ready to give up SDI just yet and remain the reason why IP has not been adopted across the board. The comfort of deploying and managing SDI systems and the reluctance of the broadcast manpower to switch to IP will have to be addressed before any transition to IP systems can be made. Going corporate Appealing to the fixed installation and enterprise sector was a key undercurrent at ConnecTechAsia. Some chose to do so by the means of conversation. Ideal Systems SEA, a broadcast integrator, and Evertz, a manufacturer, were both located at BroadcastAsia and they focussed on showcasing their offerings for the broadcast industry. But personnel at both were willing to talk at length about the moves their companies are making towards the fixed installation market. Over at NXTAsia, the focus was more overtly on enterprise clients. Microphone manufacturers looking to expand beyond the live sound, MI and performance venue markets chose to exhibit in this portion. Wireless discussion systems and ceiling microphones were on show while the conversation revolved around meeting the needs of corporate clients as Gen Y and millennials enter the workforce.
