Inside Kaushik Mukhopadhyay’s journey from AV entrepreneur to Inavate APAC AV ICON Features 17/09/2026 Kaushik Mukhopadhyay was recognised as the AV ICON for 2026 at the Inavate APAC Awards. Discover more about his journey in AV and his impact on the industry.Kaushik Mukhopadhyay’s recognition as the 2026 AV ICON Award winner marks a significant moment in his journey of sustained influence that continues to shape how the AV industry across APAC understands professional practice, standards adoption, and institutional responsibility. Mukhopadhyay fits the bill, as he continues three decades into a career that has redefined what professional AV systems integration looks like in India and across Asia. He remains actively engaged in industry governance, mentorship, and market development. Armed with an Honours degree in Physics with specialisations in optics and electronics, plus postgraduate qualifications in systems management, he could have pursued a successful career across a variety of fields. Instead, Mukhopadhyay has spent the majority of his career constructing a bridge between technical credibility and business leadership – a combination that defines his approach to AV integration. His early career included eight years in senior and board-level positions within the AV sector, a period that shaped his understanding of how larger organisations operated and where gaps existed in the market. When he founded AVID in 2004, it was with deliberate intent. He wanted to create a systems integrator structured around quality, training, detail, and accountability. Two decades later, that philosophy has scaled into a multi-city organisation with presence in eight Indian cities plus the Middle East. AVID, under Mukhopadhyay’s stewardship, has a documented install base, customer reach, employee strength, and multi-city presence underpinned by a sustained commitment to systems, training, and quality. Mukhopadhyay says: “My achievements are not just a series of personal accomplishments, but the creation of an organisation that continues to reproduce my values, standards, and commitment to excellence long after individual projects conclude.” AVID employs over 225 skilled professionals across multiple locations. That scale of organisation does not emerge from technical excellence alone. It requires leadership that can attract, develop, and retain talent committed to a specific vision of professional practice. Mukhopadhyay identifies this as both opportunity and challenge: “Getting people to work in teams and come out of their silos can sometimes be challenging. But once you get there, most other problems disappear.” He also notes: “Humans are multifaceted. You can never fully predict people, and especially when you're asking them to work in teams towards a common goal, balancing individual interests with the company’s.” This recognition of human complexity has been a key ingredient of Mukhopadhyay’s success. Professional practice as organisational culture One of the most distinctive aspects of Mukhopadhyay’s leadership has been his embedding of standards and certification culture into AVID’s organisational DNA. Since achieving AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) status in 2007, he has accumulated over 150 relevant OEM and industry certifications. In his words, these certifications are not merely a personal achievement and instead represent a commitment to the professional-development pathway he has encouraged throughout his organisation and across the wider industry. Mukhopadhyay says: “I do not consider technical knowledge as an individual asset. Instead, I have worked hard to make it institutionalised and make it a part of AVID’s delivery culture.” AVID invests in employee training and certifications which is driven by Mukhopadhyay’s belief that standardisation and certification can uplift the entire AV industry. Once Mukhopadhyay established himself in the AV industry, he sought to amplify his impact and give back. He has served as a volunteer on the AVIXA Advisory Council India for more than four years and recently served as a director on the AVIXA board. Both these roles position him to contribute on a broader scale. Mukhopadhyay has become a visible advocate for what professional AV can become. He says: “When I think about the word icon, a mentoring role is a key indicator. An icon does not merely win recognition; an icon expands the professional imagination of others. Throughout my career I’ve tried to be guided by this concept and live up to it.” That multiplier effect – translating individual expertise into repeatable capability through training and mentorship – sits at the heart of Mukhopadhyay’s journey. His contributions to AVIXA are especially relevant in the current industry climate. The AV industry in Asia is in a growth phase shaped by IT convergence, networked AV, managed services, hybrid collaboration and intelligent experience design. As an entrepreneur and CEO, Mukhopadhyay can advise beyond technical components: he can speak to how member companies convert industry opportunity into capability, how certifications open career paths for people from diverse backgrounds, and how AVIXA resources can support professional maturity in emerging markets. Navigating convergence and transformation The industry Mukhopadhyay helped shape over the past decades has undergone significant transformation. Where AV once meant room-based systems, AVID now designs solutions spanning unified communication, augmented reality, video collaboration, Internet of Things, environment control, and energy management. This redefinition of AV reflects both technological change and a strategic shift in how enterprise AV is understood. Mukhopadhyay’s decision-making around emerging technologies illustrates this adaptive mindset. In 2017, AVID received an email from a company few in the region had heard of. He details: “Nobody had heard of Zoom back then, but we thought why not? Let’s give it a try. That decision changed everything for us and the broader impact of Zoom and other VC platforms on the AV industry is now undeniable.” That willingness to experiment with nascent technologies, combined with the discipline to build organisational capability around them, has become a defining feature of AVID's market positioning. He explains: “To stay ahead, the key is to be curious always. Observe what’s happening around you, be agile and adaptable, and be among the first to experiment. The focus should always be on how you can help your customers and build the capabilities to do that effectively.” This philosophy has enabled AVID to position itself not merely as a technology vendor, but as a strategic partner helping customers transform workplaces, increase workflow efficiency, and improve energy outcomes. Mukhopadhyay believes his work is far from being complete. He is excited by the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead: “APAC is really diverse, with different languages being spoken and different cultures being shared. From an organisational perspective, it’s not difficult to replicate culture across offices because our core values remain the same wherever we are. But each market brings unique challenges."
