Stadiums: Silver bullet for stadium audio

Hurrairah bin Sohail discusses the audio requirements of stadiums with AV professionals and whether a ‘one size fits all’ audio system is feasible or indeed even possible?

Taking into consideration the large amount of money and investment required to get a stadium project to completion, returns are expected sooner rather than later. This has resulted in stadiums morphing into multi-purpose venues that offer a wide range of services. Needless to say, the AV systems required to help stadiums perform their new multifunction role have grown in complexity as well.

In particular, audio solutions for stadiums have become a different proposition. Barnaby Hall from Sennen Design says: “Originally the audio systems were designed purely as a public address system, getting announcements and information to the crowd. They’re now full-fledged evacuation and performance systems.”

Patrick Hau, senior manager for regional marketing installed sound at Bosch, adds: “The requirements for modern stadiums have definitely become more demanding today. However, to achieve a consistent coverage and not leaving a bad seat in the house is much easier to achieve than decades ago.”
