On 25th November 2024, the Shamlaji Vishnu Mandir in Gujarat's Aravalli district launched a 3D projection mapping show.
Commissioned by the Gujarat Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board, the project integrates AV technology with the temple’s architectural features.
The project involved the supply, installation, commissioning, and five years of maintenance for a 3D projection mapping system, spanning a 90ft x 85ft façade of the temple. The 28-minute show narrates the history, architecture, and mythology associated with the temple in Gujarati, Hindi, and English, with narration by Harish Bhimani and music by Indian Ocean.
Rhino Engineers Private Limited handled the concept development, RGBW dynamic lighting design, and integration of a 7.1 surround sound system and projection systems.
Star Dimension Private Limited was appointed to execute the integration, while Magical Theatre developed the video content and accompanying elements.
Designing the projection façade and selecting a viewing gallery were challenging due to the temple's structure and constant foot traffic. Equipment placement was adjusted to minimise interference with pilgrims. Surround sound speakers and lighting fixtures were mounted strategically near the temple's base and ramparts.
To protect the equipment, an air-conditioned control cabin was installed on the rooftop, housing five Barco laser projectors, audio/video systems, and a UPS. Special mounting arrangements were employed for wiring and fixtures to preserve the temple’s structure.
The installation features:
• Five Barco 3-chip DLP laser projectors (22,000 lumens).
• Dataton 3D projection mapping software and playback systems.
• A Dolby-supported 7.1 surround sound system by Turbosound.
• Over 800 Aura RGBW LED fixtures for lighting.
• A 120KW solar power system with 220 panels to support operations.
The project commenced on 23rd July 2023, with completion by 30th July 2024. The total cost was INR (Rs.) 6.49 crore.
The show was inaugurated by Gujarat’s Tourism Minister, marking the operational launch of the installation.
