Working on the go without constantly scrolling and switching between windows could soon be a reality with a 24-in portable device known as ‘SPUD’ (Spontaneous Pop-Up Display) weighing just 0.68 kg, developed by Arovia.
Alongside the live music at this week’s South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in Texas, the event introduced some of the latest technology developments at its 23rd Interactive Festival.
One of the most interesting products showcased was SPUD, a take-with-you display the “size of an Apple TV” that unfolds into a full-sized, 1280 x 720 resolution monitor that supports HDMI and wireless inputs (using Intel’s WiDi protocol).
The device’s screen is constructed from a special vinyl composite. When fully collapsed, the screen measures approximately 2.2 x 5.6 x 7.5 inches (about 5.6 x 14.2 x 19 cm). It has a battery life of 4 hours.
Future models with higher resolution are in currently in development. Arovia hope to bring SPUD to the market via Kickstarter funding, with Google reportedly interested in promoted the product according to Gizmag.
