LED displays: Long lives

Hurrairah bin Sohail explores the use of LED tiles in Asia Pacific for outdoor applications and tries to determine how quality products with long operational lives can be made attractive to OOH companies.

Clients looking for visual systems for an indoor AV installation, say for example a corporate boardroom, are spoilt for choice. They can seriously consider LCD ? at panel displays, projectors or LED tiles for the job. However, clients looking for a visual system for outdoor or OOH [out of home] use often do not have the luxury of choosing from the same range of options. In some markets it comes down to old-school printed billboards or the technologically forward LED tiles. LED manufacturers are obviously quick to highlight the advantages of their products.

Johnson from Absen says: “For outdoor advertising, LED display is still the ?rst option. Until now there are not many alternatives for videowalls. Some clients have accepted LCD or OLED videowall for outdoor use previously, but unfortunately such projects have failed and the performance is not acceptable.”
