William Tan, regional director of the global safety division at NEC Corporations, says: “According to a Transparency Market Research Report, Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest growing regional market from 2014 to 2020, growing at a CAGR of 22.2%, and growth is mainly spurred by the demand from countries such as China, India, Thailand and South Korea. In addition to the above, Malaysia and Hong Kong are also countries for growth in these areas.†He adds: “There is a growing awareness of the benefits and need for safe and smart cities technologies that can help address urbanisation issues and improve safety in urban areas.†Masami Eguchi, general manager of the security system business division at Panasonic System Solutions Asia Pacific, concurs: “Many ASEAN countries showed two-digit year-on-year growth in volume, with a drop in the average price of products. In particular, countries like Vietnam and Indonesia saw growths of 23% and 21% respectively this past year.†According to Tan, the traditional sectors that require security and surveillance solutions are driving growth. He says: “There is a demand for city surveillance from the public sector, for law enforcement purposes, border control and perimeter security, as well as for critical infrastructure monitoring.
