Extron system brings control to medical simulation space

VinUniversity has once again turned to Hoang Minh Investment Technology to bring a streamlined Extron control system for its simulation spaces.

The simulation spaces in the university’s two buildings are based on a modern hospital and home-health service, focused on diagnostics, procedures, lab work and crisis intervention. 

Hoang Minh Investment Technology worked with the university planners to design and build an AV system using Extron products. This installation follows previous work by Hoang Minh Investment Technology at the university, installing a switching, streaming and sound capabilities for the university’s support rooms and meeting spaces. 

Extron’s DXP HD 4K Plus matrix switchers were used in the lecture and simulation rooms, supporting 4K/60 HDMI with 4:4:4 colour sampling at data rates up to 18 Gbps and HDR. The switchers were used to meet the high-resolution video requirements for medical imaging and the switching speed for emergency services. 

The DTP transmitters extend signals from sources within the room, linked to the adult and child interactive medical mannequins to provide an array of capabilities and integrated health responses. Content is also transmitted to the room’s displays and audio signals sent to the sound system. 

A DXP matric switcher is used to de-embed audio and send the signal to a DMP 128 Plus AT 12x8 ProDSP audio processor for mixing program audio, live microphones and feeds from the mannequins. 

The sound system in the simulation spaces are driven by XPA U 358-100V power amplifiers, providing 35-watt channels of 100 V distributed audio as well as an MPA 601 60-watt amplifier. These amplifiers drive pairs of CS 26T Plus two-way open back ceiling speakers with a 100V transformer. 

Instructors can use a tablet to select and activate the facility’s mannequins’ responses based on applied treatments, with support staff monitoring the lectures and simulation scenarios from the control rooms. The AV system can also be remotely operated.
