Disney secures patent to deliver targeted 3D projections to park visitors

Disney has been granted a patent that offers a glimpse into how it might be planning to use 3D projections to interact with and engage visitors to its theme parks.

In December, the US Patent Office approved a patent for a Virtual World Simulator that would project moving 3D images on real word objects.

The experience would not require headsets or glasses to view and is designed to offer personalised experiences to individual visitors. Some reports have suggested the projections would feature Disney characters that could interact with people within the parks.

Disney’s patent suggest that visitors’ smart phones could hold the key to tracking that would allow the targeted projections, while hidden speakers would provide the voices.
