A group within Carnegie Mellon University has developed technology that allows people to use their body as a touch-input device. Gestures on the skin will be registered and used to control screens and devices. More specifically actions like swiping on the wrist will allow users to swipe on their phones or brushing your hand will allow you to scroll.
The technology is meant to be a replacement for trackpads as opposed to touch-screens. It is also meant to make touch-input easier for smaller devices. The mooted use for the technology is in conjunction with smart watches, for example the Apple iWatch.
Smart watch screens are too small for users to allow for precision touch input. With the SkinTrack technology users will be able to control their smart watch by using their skin as the input device making the entire experience more user-friendly.
