Videopro, a leading Australian technology retailer, has announced that its current executive director and co-owner, Cameron Douglas, will be stepping into the role of chief executive officer.
Douglas will replace current CEO, Ian Wright, who will shift his focus to the day-to-day internal operations of the business in his new role as chief operations officer, while continuing to provide strategic direction as a co-owner of the business.
Since joining Videopro in a retail sales role just shy of his 21st birthday, Douglas has grown exponentially with the business, completing his Executive MBA in 2013 at Queensland University of Technology, before becoming a shareholder in 2014.
As CEO, Douglas plans to bring a showcase Videopro’s position as a leader in the technology sector in the country through its top-quality customer service and ongoing innovation.
Douglas said: “After more than 15 years with Videopro, I can confidently say there is no more exciting time than right now for the technology industry and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead the business through this next phase.
“Videopro has a unique ability to connect with younger people where currently they are underserviced by the aging bigger players. We are also the only AV company in Australia that provides the full spectrum from entry level consumer through to high end professional equipment, two spaces that continue to blur together.”
He continued: “In addition to meetings and home entertainment, Videopro has been an integral partner to organisations with application from remote learning and court hearings to streamed events and religious services… We even streamed a surgery across the globe. Video and all the technology around it has really shined through the pandemic, keeping people connected, and that’s what we do really well.”
Wright said: “I am thrilled to hand the CEO baton over to Cameron and look forward to seeing his continued growth in the business as a leader. Cameron’s deep knowledge of the technology industry and passion for pushing the boundaries through innovation will drive our growth and expansion plans over the next five to ten years.”
Executive director, Jason Derry said the decision to promote Douglas to CEO was a clear next step for the business. He said: “I am confident that Cameron will lead Videopro with passion and maintain the business’s commitment to enhancing our customers’ lives through technology and support. Cameron has been a valued employee of the business for more than 15 years and his expertise in sales, customer experience, people management and innovation has always been second to none.”
