Clear-Com supported Musikal Perahu Kertas, a large-scale musical theatre production in Indonesia adapted from the acclaimed novel by Dee Lestari, through the deployment of an updated communications system designed for live theatre performances.
Presented by Trinity Entertainment Network, in collaboration with Indonesia Kaya and the Trinity Youth Symphony Orchestra (TRUST), the musical featured frequent scene changes, live orchestration, and simultaneous activity across multiple production areas. To maintain safety, timing, and coordination throughout the run, the production team relied on Clear-Com to deliver clear, dependable communication.
The system was supplied by 86inc, an Indonesia-based rental partner specialising in professional communication systems for broadcast, event productions, and live shows. As the technical lead for the project, 86inc was responsible for the design, configuration, and on-site operation of the intercom infrastructure.
Based on the operational demands of the musical, including multiple departments working simultaneously across the venue, 86inc selected Clear-Com’s Eclipse HX for its capacity, flexibility, and reliability in large theatrical environments. The system supported 10 dedicated channels, allowing each department to communicate without cross talk or unnecessary distractions.
The deployed configuration included an Eclipse HX MVX-A16 card for routing multiple outputs to the audio console, an E-IPA card with IP transceivers, more than 15 FreeSpeak II wireless beltpacks, and a V-series panel located at front-of-house for show control.
Teams across front-of-house, backstage, dressing rooms, and the orchestra pit were connected through a centralised matrix, enabling consistent two-way communication throughout the venue.
The Clear-Com system delivered stable, low-latency audio and reliable coverage, including in challenging backstage areas. Dedicated channels helped teams stay focused and respond quickly during complex scene transitions.
Caron Shaine, production manager of Musikal Perahu Kertas, commented: “Clear and reliable communication is key to the success of the show.”
From an operational standpoint, the system helped reduce risk during high-pressure moments. Oscar Yulius Joseph, technical and operational manager at 86inc, said: “This musical had many moving parts, including heavy equipment and frequent stage changes. We knew how critical it is to coordinate crews safely and make sure cues between actors, lighting, and music happened at the right time.”
With reliable communication supporting every cue and transition, Musikal Perahu Kertas was able to execute a complex theatrical production safely and smoothly from rehearsal through its final performance.
