In the heart of Bangkok’s vibrant Sukhumvit Soi 11 entertainment district, Sugar Club has been one of the city’s destinations for hip-hop and urban music culture. The venue has upgraded its audio capabilities with L-Acoustics A series speakers.
As Bangkok’s nightlife scene evolved and competition intensified, Sugar Club faced a challenge of maintaining its edge while elevating the experience for increasingly sophisticated audiences.
For Sugar Club Bangkok, this wasn’t merely a technical upgrade—it was about creating an authentic urban music experience that would differentiate the venue in Bangkok's competitive nightlife market.
The club’s search for audio excellence led them to L-Acoustics Certified Partner Vision One. Vision One had already demonstrated its expertise through successful installations at the owners’ other venues, including Insanity Club, Levels Club, and Sugar Phuket.
Akarat ‘Pete’ Thitipattakul, business development manager at Vision One, said: “Our longstanding relationship with the venue owners positioned us as the trusted choice for this audio upgrade project. Our proven track record gave them confidence that we could meet the performance and quality expectations for this unique dance music venue.”
Designing the optimal system for Sugar Club presented unique challenges. The venue’s complex layout, varying ceiling heights, and the critical need for precise acoustic control to prevent sound spill into adjacent areas required careful planning and sophisticated modelling.
Vision One turned to L-Acoustics Soundvision 3D modelling software to solve these challenges. Thitipattakul noted: “With the venue’s complex layout, Soundvision was essential in predicting sound distribution across various zones. It allowed us to optimise speaker placement to ensure consistent coverage throughout the space, helping us achieve precise, high-performance results even in challenging acoustic areas.”
The software’s analysis revealed that effective SPL and coverage would be achieved through a strategic deployment of L-Acoustics A series line array speakers—specifically A10 units as the main system and X12 speakers as fills.
The main L/R system features one A10 Focus and two A10 Wide boxes per side, creating a soundscape that for the dancefloor. Four ground-stacked KS21 subwoofers provide the bass that hip-hop tracks demand, while two X12 speakers serve as fills, ensuring consistent coverage throughout the venue. The entire system is powered by three LA4X amplified controllers and an L-Acoustics P1 processor.
Thitipattakul said: “Thanks to the flexibility of the A series, we were confident that the system would deliver powerful and detailed sound ideal for hip-hop performances, while also maintaining vocal clarity for live rap performances.”
The transformation was immediate and impressive. Vision One provided comprehensive training for Sugar Club’s technical staff, ensuring optimal performance seven nights a week. The club’s team quickly embraced the powerful, clear sound and appreciated the system's reliability and ease of operation.
