Amplifiers: Powering sound

Amplifiers are a key component of many audio systems. Hurrairah bin Sohail talks with manufacturers to find out what integrators should look for and expect in the products they specify.

Demand [for amplifiers] is growing wherever the demand for a higher quality of sound is growing. Users want loudspeaker sound systems that are reliable and easy to use and come with great service and support for the whole system, by one solution provider,” says Wolfgang Schulz, product manager for installation at d&b audiotechnik.

Remo Orsoni, Powersoft APAC application engineer and trainer, adds: “The demand for amplifiers in the region is definitely growing but the needs are no longer just an ‘audio amplifier’. The customers are looking for a more complete package which can help them do their job better and more effectively in their everyday work, from the powerful integrated DSP processing to the networking capabilities and Dante streaming for specific applications.”

Increasing demand for amplifiers has also lead to new players entering the market and product segment. Biamp Systems will be releasing its first range of Tesira amplifiers in the first quarter of 2016. Jon Seretis, content liaison manager for Australia and New Zealand at Biamp, says: “The demand is definitely growing as amplifiers power efficiencies and product robustness is a major factor in many projects. As buildings become energy efficient, there is a greater reliance on heat- and power-efficient amplifiers. The Tesira platform, with these new digital amplifiers, offers this as well as a networked architecture utilizing AVB/TSN to provide a cost effective solution, flexible, and future proofed solution, which provides a high ROI for the client.”
