Country Focus: Myanmar

As Myanmar opens its borders and moves forward it presents the professional AV industry with a golden chance to capitalise. Hurrairah bin Sohail talks with Pink Khine Zin Company.

After years of political turmoil, Myanmar seems to have started on the path to peace and prosperity. The country held its first elections in Movember 2015 and looks to put its period of rule by the military junta behind it. As it heads toward democracy the country is also opening up in the business sense providing those with vision an opportunity to gain a foothold in one of Asia Pacific’s newest emerging markets. The case is no different for the professional AV industry.

Khine Min Htoo, director at Pink Khine Zin Company Ltd, says that the AV industry had to suffer many hardships in the past. But as Myanmar opens up, he details the opportunities that are presenting themselves: “The industry had been quite limited and it is only now gaining a bit of popularity. The reason that the market was limited in the past was due to sanctions imposed by the western countries. That was the main reason why we could not get any dealerships [from AV manufacturers] or import any audio visual goods and products.”
