Sony Electronics Asia Pacific has partnered with Nanyang Polytechnic to provide third-year diploma in multimedia & Infocomm technology (interactive media) students with the skillset to create interactive content using professional AV hardware.
This semester, the focus of the interactive media specialisation was projection mapping. A total of 45 students were exposed to software, projectors and media servers to help them understand projection mapping. The students worked on real-life simulated projects to further their education.
Various large structures resembling iconic Singapore buildings and objects such as the Capitol Theatre, ArtScience Museum, Raffles City Shopping Centre, and National Museum of Singapore were created by Nanyang Polytechnic for the students to project their content on. As part of the collaboration, Sony provided loan units of the VPL-FHZ55 projector, for usage during the course.
Sony also sponsored attractive prizes such as USB flash drives for all participants and headphones by Sony for a projection mapping competition to encourage students and acknowledge their efforts. Students were given six weeks to complete their work – from research and conceptualisation to set up.
They participated in the competition in 13 teams of three to four members. The winning team developed projection mapping content for the F1 car structure. They focused on developing different car skins and fancy effects to capture the audience’s attention.
