Vettri Theatres in Chromepet Chennai has upgraded two of its auditoriums powered by GDC cinema technologies. The project includes an acoustically transparent cinema LED screen, installed at Screen VOLT, as well as GDC immersive audio processor featuring DTS:X for IAB immersive audio at Screen Krish.
Vettri Theatres operates three auditoriums with a total of 1,000 seats. In 2026, two of its auditoriums underwent major upgrades with the latest immersive cinema technologies. The 200-seat VOLT now features what is claimed to be India’s first acoustically transparent Tricorne Premium LED cinema screen.
Meanwhile, the 100-seat Krish has been equipped with DTS:X for IAB immersive audio and pure RGB laser projection.
The upgraded VOLT auditorium features an acoustically transparent, ultra-fine 3.3mm pixel pitch, Tricorne Premium LED cinema screen, powered by GDC’s LED media server.
Tricorne Premium LED features an acoustically transparent design that redefines the integration of sight and sound. By enabling cinema-grade loudspeakers to be positioned directly behind the LED surface, the display delivers precise, localized audio that locks seamlessly with on-screen action.
This allows audiences to experience the full vibrancy, uniform brightness, super-high contrast, and colour accuracy of direct-view LED technology—while enjoying sound that feels as natural, immersive, and spatially authentic as the visuals themselves.
The installation marks another milestone for Tricorne Premium LED in South Asia. South Asia’s first Tricorne Premium LED cinema screen opened at Majestic Cineplex in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in May 2026.
Globally, Tricorne Premium LED has also been selected for three landmark projects: CINEMAGNUM's planned world's largest cinema LED screen in Nuremberg, Germany measuring more than 30 meters wide alongside two APEX screens for Australia's top exhibitor, HOYTS: a 25-meter-wide installation at Karrinyup and a 21-meter-wide installation at Melbourne Central.
The investment reflects Vettri's passion for adopting best-in-class cinema technologies to craft truly immersive moviegoing experiences for its customers. Vettri selected Tricorne for the project based on a long-standing relationship with the GDC India team and unwavering confidence in the team's technical expertise and proven ability to deliver a fully integrated, acoustically transparent cinema LED solution, paired with a DTS:X immersive audio solution.
Rakesh Gowthaman, proprietor of Vettri Theatres, said: “Since CineAsia in 2014, GDC and I have often discussed the possibilities of a business collaboration between Vettri and GDC. After more than a decade of conversations, that opportunity finally came together through my interest in an acoustically transparent LED solution. What made this collaboration even more exciting was the opportunity to bring DTS:X for IAB immersive audio to Krish, allowing us to create two completely different technology-driven cinema experiences in the specialty auditoriums.
“I have been particularly delighted to work with the GDC technical team. They are extremely technically sound, have tremendous clarity in whatever they undertake, and bring a very hands-on approach to every aspect of the project. It has been a pleasure finally turning years of conversations into a real collaboration. I’m looking forward to building a much bigger and more exciting future together with GDC.”
Sachin Shetty, executive director of EMEA and country head, GDC India, said: “Rakesh has a strong understanding of cinema technology and has always been committed to bringing the best immersive cinematic experience to his patrons. After many years of discussions, the technology is finally ripe for a significant upgrade to Vettri Theatres. The installation of India's first acoustically transparent Tricorne Premium LED cinema screen at VOLT, together with DTS:X for IAB immersive audio at Krish, reflects our shared commitment to delivering innovative cinema experiences."
