ClearOne has been awarded a patent for augmenting beamforming microphone arrays with non-beamforming microphones.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has officially issued a United States Patent for the “Augmentation of a Beamforming Microphone Array with Non-Beamforming Microphones.”
The patent covers a system for beamforming of audio signals in which beamforming is performed in a bandpass frequency window by a set of microphones while at least one microphone is used to augment the low frequency audio pickup of the beamforming array. ClearOne state that this enables a beamformer to have improved low-frequency response, fewer microphones in the array and less computational complexity.
With the patent, the company hope to better an end user’s audio conferencing experiencing whilst maintain design simplicity. ClearOne currently holds 69 patents and 30 pending patent across different technologies.
